Beginnings

Nikko's eyes were gazing over the ocean, her pupils slightly dilated from the lack of sunlight. The moon was rising ever so slightly from behind her, casting dull shadows. The stars seemed in dull comparison to the brightness of the full moon, but their reflection casted off of the water, as if they were above a rippling mirror. The waves were lapping at her paws.

There was a slight breeze that floated towards the sea, them smells of the town behind her filling her body as she checked for the correct scents. She noted that some were missing, but she simply thought that they were paroling, or attending to business away from town. Nikko twitched her ear slightly and her tail flicked.

Then her eyes flashed, casting off a red light that erased the shadows around her.

"There isn't enough time!” Nikko screamed from on top of a cliff. But she looked... Off. For one, her tail was raised up, unlike how she usually drags it against the ground, and she seemed... Tired. She had bags under her eyes and her fur was slightly matted in places. Like she hadn't taken care of herself in a while. “I can't stop it from happening!” She cried out, tears forming in her eyes. “I'm going to forget!” The cat screamed at the stars. She collapsed onto her side suddenly, tears streaming down her face as she hiccuped. “I've tried everything...” Her paws covered her face. “I've remembered almost everything... I just have my birth left."

The stars seemed to twinkle in response. Nikko was silent as she cried into her paws.

But then she froze.

"The same thing will happen again! A-And I can warn m-!” She suddenly jumped up and looked at the stars. Nikko's eyes were wide and filled with unshead tears. “I-if you're seeing this! I need to warn you! You're getting your memory!”

“B-But that's a bad thing! Because your mind can't handle it all! You're going to forget everything again! Your mind will shut down and you won't remember anything!" She rubbed her head lightly. "It's like how a rubber band pulls all the way back, then snaps forward when it can't stretch anymore."

She sat down on the cliff side, her tail hanging off of the edge, the beach below her. "And when you are going to remember, you're going to go back to the source..." 

Silence filled the air as she looked below at the beach. "Then you'll look and realize what you have to do..." 

The Nikko of the past's eyes flashed red, and she took a step off the cliff side.

And fell onto the beach.

Her crumpled form laid sprawled out on the beach, the waves lapping at her body.

Her eyes then opened and she jumped up. She blinked and looked around confused at the world around her with a childlike gaze. She looked at her own body, curiously poking and prodding her form. Nikko then jumped up and looked out at the sea, the waves lapping at her paws, seemingly greeting her into the world.
